On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, the Bureau of Planning and Sustainability convened the 26-member Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC) for the Residential Infill Project. This meeting, a follow up to an optional informational session on November 17, aimed to create a shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to the project’s third focus area: narrow lot development.
The SAC has met six times since September 2015 to learn about the City’s policy direction with the new Comprehensive Plan and discuss the first two project topic areas: scale of houses and alternative housing options. Additionally, City staff have led a series of four neighborhood walks for SAC members and interested residents covering four distinct Portland areas, including Inner South (Richmond), Western (South Burlingame), Eastern (Powellhurst-Gilbert) and Inner North (Boise-Eliot).
The next SAC meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 1900 SW 4th Ave., Room 2500 (2nd Floor). SAC members will be briefed on the policy framework that guides Portland’s projected population growth in single-dwelling residential neighborhoods and review best practices for residential infill development in other cities. Members will also help staff develop principles for the January 2016 charrette/workshop (tentatively scheduled for all day Thursday, January 21, 2015, location TBA) as well as evaluation criteria for assessing future prototype alternatives. The general public is welcome to attend and share comments and observations at all SAC events. Check the project calendar for meeting dates and times.
