Civil Disturbance Possible in Downtown Portland on August 17, 2019
City officials are preparing for a large protest on Saturday, August 17, 2019, in the downtown core of Portland. The protest is expected to remain in the downtown area, although activity may extend to adjacent areas, such as the Central Eastside. The timing of the event is not certain. A large police presence will be downtown to secure public safety.
Bureau of Development Services (BDS) Building Inspectors have been visiting active construction sites in the area to inform and ask that sites be secured prior to this event. This means securing tools, equipment, building materials and construction debris that could become weaponized by protesters. In an attempt to minimize property damage and help ensure public safety, BDS is asking for your assistance in distributing this flyer to any and all appropriate parties associated with active construction sites in these areas.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!
