Spring is finally here, and gardens are thriving all over the city. Meanwhile, the Urban Food Zoning Code Update continues to make progress on expanding Portlanders’ ability to grow and sell food by removing zoning code barriers. After hosting a series of topic area discussions this winter, project staff is preparing a Concept Report that includes a recap of the issues, benefits, and possible impacts to the surrounding area for each of the topic areas: market gardens, community gardens, farmers markets, community food distribution sites, and animals/bees as well as research of how other jurisdictions regulate these food production and distribution activities.
The Concept Report will be available to the public July 5th, followed by opportunities to comment and learn more about the project during July and August. Your input is important and will be used as new zoning code regulations for urban food are developed this Fall. Check www.portlandonline.com/bps/foodcode for more information.
