Expanding Opportunities for Affordable Housing

  • St Francis Park Apartments St Francis Park Apartments: 106 units of affordable housing developed in 2017 on land owned by St Francis Church

  • Rivergate Community Church + Habitat for Humanity = Rivergate Commons Partnership between a faith community and Habitat results in 12 houses built on former church land.

There are more than 400 community-based organizations with hundreds of acres of buildable land in Portland. Many members of these communities want to help solve the housing crisis.

A growing number of them are exploring how to use their properties for affordable housing. The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has convened a project, funded by a grant from Metro, to help these communities begin the process of developing affordable housing on their properties. Through the grant, BPS is funding design and finance consulting services for three organizations chosen through an application process.
